TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE MONTHLY CELLPHONE BANKING CUSTOMER PROMOTIONAL COMPETITION CONDUCTED BY THE STANDARD BANK OF SOUTH AFRICA LIMITED (“THE PROMOTER”)
  1. How to Play
    1. This promotional competition starts on Wednesday 1 June 2011 and end on Wednesday, 30 November 2011.

    2. To qualify as an entrant into this monthly competition you must:
      1. be a South African citizen or permanent resident of South Africa;

      2. be 18 (eighteen) years or older;

      3. hold a valid identification document;

      4. have a Transactional Account (“Account”) with the Promoter for the duration of the Promotional Competition;

      5. successfully register for the Standard Bank Cellphone Banking Facility (“Facility”) by dialling *120*2345#; and

      6. use the Facility at least 1 (one) time for the duration of the monthly competition in order to obtain an entry into the monthly competition (“Requirement”).


    3. You may enter this monthly competition as many times as you wish. Each time you use the Facility, you will receive 1 (one) entry into the monthly competition.

  2. Prizes
    1. Each month, 10 (ten) entrants each stand the chance to win R10 000 .00 (ten thousand rand) to be deposited into their Account.

  3. General
    1. The Promoter of this promotional competition is The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited.

    2. The Promoter, its directors, members, partners, employees, agents or consultants and their spouses, life partners, parents, children, siblings, business partners or associates are not eligible to participate in or enter this promotional competition.

    3. All information relating to this promotional competition and published on the Promoter’s website or any promotional or advertising material forms part of these terms and conditions of entry.

    4. No entry will be considered to be valid until a validation process has taken place.

    5. The Prize will only be awarded to the prize winner upon valid and satisfactory proof of identification and upon the successful opening of an Account with the Promoter.

    6. The Prize shall only be credited into the prize winner’s Account and cannot be credited into any other account.

    7. The Prize cannot not be changed for any other prize other than the prize offered in terms of clause 2 above.

    8. The prize winners of this promotional competition shall be chosen by means of a lucky draw at the Promoters premises situate at 5 Simmonds Street, Marshalltown, Johannesburg and on the following dates:
      1. Friday 8 June 2011;Friday 12 June 2011;

      2. Friday 9 September;

      3. Friday 7 October 2011;

      4. Friday 11 November; and

      5. Friday 9 December 2011.

    9. Prize winners will be contacted only telephonically by the Promoter.

    10. Should the Promoter be unable to contact the prize winner after a 6 (six) month period, the prize shall be subject to a separate draw and shall be allocated in terms of this promotional competition.

    11. In the event of a dispute, the decision of the Promoter will be final and binding on all aspects of this promotional competition and no correspondence will be entered into.

    12. The Promoter, its directors, members, partners, employees, agents, consultants, suppliers, contractors and sponsors assume no liability whatsoever for any direct or indirect loss or damage arising from a entrant's participation in this promotional competition or for any loss or damage, howsoever arising.

    13. The Promoter will be entitled to publish the prize winner’s name and photograph in any advertising, promotional, print, point of sale or public relations material, the nature and manner of such releases to be determined within the sole discretion of the Promoter, for a period of 12 (twelve) months from the date of the lucky draw, after having being publicly announced as the prize winner of this promotional competition and provided that the prize winners expressly consent to such.

    14. If required by the Minister for Trade and Industry, the National Consumer Commission or for whatever other reason, the Promoter shall have the right to terminate this promotional competition with immediate effect and without notice of such termination. In such event, all entrants hereby waive any rights, which they may have against the Promoter and hereby acknowledge that they will have no recourse or claim of any nature whatsoever against the Promoter, its directors, members, partners, employees, sponsors, agents or consultants.

    15. All entrants, by entering this promotional competition, agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

    16. The Promoter is not liable for the failure of any technical element relating to this promotional competition that may result in an entry not being successfully submitted.

    17. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute any prize with another prize of similar commercial value.

Can I register for the App with my Business Account?

You can use your business card number to register for the App. All your accounts that are linked to your business card will appear. If you have registered using your business account, you will not be able to register with your personal card number on the same device.

I cannot register with my correct cellphone number.

The correct cellphone number must be updated on the system. Please visit your local branch to do so.

How do I update the App?

If an update is available you will be notified in the App store. Log into the App store to update the App

I am not able to use the ATM and branch locator.

Make sure that your device 'display my location' settings are switched on. The locator cannot find branches and ATM's in your area if it cannot determine where you are.

Can I register more than one phone/device?

Yes, you can register up to 10 devices using one card number.

What happens to my transaction if the session was discontinued or I lost signal?

When there is a timeout or break in the connection from your device to Standard Bank your session will automatically be logged out.

Does the App remember login details?

Once you have registered your device whenever accessing the banking function your device is recognised and you will be required to enter your CSP (Customer Selected PIN). We do not store login details.

Can I enter a different beneficiary reference for 'pay beneficiary' transactions?

The beneficiary reference can be changed on a per transaction basis- as you do the actual payment. The saved reference on your internet banking profile (if you have one) will however not be changed and will stay the same.

Where can I get a link to download the App to my device?

The App for all devices is only available from the various App stores. You must be registered with the App store. (App store registration is free)

What do I require to use the Windows App store?

You are required to create a Windows Live ID.

I have a Blackberry touch screen and the App does not work when I touch the buttons?

This is a Blackberry touch screen issue and not related to the App. Try using the touchpad and the click function.

I am experiencing trouble to open the App on my Blackberry. It seems like it is hanging and displaying only a white screen to me.

  • Your Blackberry may be link to a BES server through your company which has security       settings as part of a company block. Upgrade to version 2.0.0.3. To do this:
    • Enter the Blackberry App world and Select My World.
    • Select installed from the drop down menu
    • Select the Standard Bank App and a message  will display “Upgrade available”
    • Select the upgrade button
  •  In addition, please ensure you have sufficient device memory and you are running OS6 and upwards. To check this do the following:
    • From the home screen select ”Options” (spanner icon)
    • Scroll and select ‘Device”
    • Scroll and select “About Device Versions”
    • View device version is displayed next to BUNDLE
  • The App requires 4.4mb of storage to download.
  • The App may also render a white screen if there is insufficient running storage on the device. To check this do the following:
    • From the home screen select ”Options” (spanner icon)
    • Scroll and select ‘Application Management”
Scroll to the right to display CPU/Usage/Memory/Application storage/Applications

I receive the error message 'Server communication error occurs'

Ensure you have sufficient data (airtime) on your device. You may also be experiencing network issues in your area.

I cannot find the App on the App store.

If you have a Samsung device- the App is not available in the Samsung App store, try searching the Google Play store.

If you have a Blackberry- the App is not supported for your device and OS. Please refer to the above list to see if your device is listed. An 8520 is not supported.

OS5 and lower is not supported.

Can I get the App on my jail broken or hacked phone?

The App is not supported on jail broken or hacked version upgrades that are not supplied by the device providers.

Why can't I see all my accounts?

In order to view all your accounts, they need to be linked to the card number which you have registered for Mobile banking. If your card is not linked, you can do so at your nearest branch.
